Tornado tears through southern France damaging homes

70,000 social and affordable homes will be built in Greater Manchester, the West Midlands, West and South Yorkshire, Liverpool, and the North East of England. It's the first announcement as part of the government's wider plan to spend £39 billion on building 300,000 homes over the next decade. Andy Burnham had called for all the money to be allocated to social housing before he became PM.
