MAASAI INITIATION CEREMONY. The Maasai Morans undergo cultural processes that once finished, the boys are welcome to the adlthood. They are no longer boys but men. ​After circumscion and completely healed, the new warriors leave their families and move into a Manyatta—a specialized camp built just for them. For the next 7 to 15 months they live under a strict code of brotherhood. ​The Look: They grow their hair long and braid it into intricate patterns, staining it with red ochre and animal fat.
