Grignard Reaction

The Grignard reaction enables the formation of C–C bonds via nucleophilic addition of organomagnesium species to electrophilic carbon centers. Discovered by Victor Grignard in the early 20th century, the reaction proceeds through single-electron transfer during oxidative insertion of magnesium into the C–X bond, generating an organomagnesium intermediate that adds to carbonyl compounds, followed by acidic workup to yield alcohols.
