Cody Bellinger’s towering solo home run with one out in the seventh was the Yankees’ first hit against Cease, a game-tying solo shot into the second deck in right. Cease struck out nine in the loss for San Diego, walking two batters with the one hit allowed. He was removed from the game one batter after Bellinger’s blast with an apparent injury.

Pinch-hitter J.C. Escarra came through with a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning and the New York Yankees rallied past the San Diego Padres 4-3 after being held hitless into the seventh.
