New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, a Democratic candidate for mayor, was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents Tuesday after obstructing their attempt to detain a criminal defendant who was leaving court.
Mamdani said racist and Islamophobic threats are not new for him but they recently reached a “new level of specificity.”
Brad Lander was arrested for assaulting a law enforcement officer, according to a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security.
Brad Lander was escorting a defendant out of immigration court in Manhattan when he was "taken by masked agents and detained by ICE," his campaign spokesperson said.
