Protesters clashed with law enforcement in Los Angeles on Sunday after Trump deployed National Guard troops over the objections of Gov. Newsom.

The Guard’s arrival marks a potentially volatile phase in Trump’s push to ramp up deportations and in his contentious relationship with state and local authorities.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom plans to file a lawsuit against the Trump administration early Monday morning over the president’s deployment of 300 National Guard troops to Los Angeles, even as the LAPD chief admitted Sunday his cops “are overwhelmed” by the violent anti-ICE riots taking over the city.

Homeland Security Secretary Noem blamed California Gov. Newsom for the need to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles protests.

"Great job by the National Guard in Los Angeles after two days of violence, clashes and unrest," Trump posted at 11:41 p.m. Saturday, before troops had arrived.

In an exclusive interview with NBC News' Jacob Soboroff, California Governor Gavin Newsom said that President Trump "has created the conditions" surrounding the Los Angeles protests. The governor went on to call Trump's decision to deploy the National Guard "a manufactured crisis,
