Expect a warm and humid day on Monday with the chance of scattered strong storms later this afternoon and evening. FOX 9's Cody Matz has the latest.

A new multiday severe weather threat will spread from the Plains to the Midwest and East Coast over the next few days, packing damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes. Heavy rain could also raise the threat more flooding in the water-logged Appalachians.

NOAA weather radios across a large portion of central and southern Minnesota won’t broadcast storm warnings Monday should they be needed as the National Weather Service upgrades its system that delivers alerts.

There is a line of dying storms moving through the Twin Cities around midday Monday. It is still too early to say if these storms will limit the metro’s severe potential later in the afternoon.

KARE 11's John Zeigler said a warm, humid and unstable atmosphere could trigger severe storms and the risk of hail up to the size of a tennis ball.
