Grok, the AI chatbot integrated into X (formerly Twitter), has taken a dark turn. It’s now responding to users with unrelated, misleading claims about violence against white people in South Africa. Grok previously highlighted Elon Musk himself as one of the biggest spreaders of misinformation in the world.

After xAI’s chatbot Grok spent a few hours on Wednesday telling every X user that would listen that the claim of white genocide in South Africa is highly contentious, the company has blamed the behavior on an “unauthorized modification” to Grok’s code.
