Mayor Muriel Bowser is out of town on a family commitment Thursday and is expected to return to the District Friday afternoon, sources confirm to FOX 5 DC. Her travel comes as President Donald Trump has moved to expand federal authority in the District.

This time around, Bowser took a different tact from the start. She flew to Florida to meet with Trump at Mar-a-Lago after he won the election and has worked to avoid conflict and downplay points of contention, including tearing up the “Black Lives Matter” letters after he returned to Washington in response to pressure from Republicans in Congress.

After Donald Trump won the presidential election, Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser flew to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate to see him.
