The Denver Broncos beefed up their offensive backfield on Tuesday, agreeing with free agent running back J.K. Dobbins on a one-year deal worth up to $5.25 million.

He's sharing the number for now: cornerback Damarri Mathis also wore No. 27 on Wednesday (the NFL allows players to share numbers in the offseason if they play on different sides of the ball).

On Tuesday afternoon, word emerged that running back J.K. Dobbins has signed with the Broncos. Not long thereafter, coach Sean Payton met with reporters. And Payton was mum about the situation. “I’m not going to answer to any reports,” Payton said. “I think we’re close. I’ll tell you tomorrow.”
