Police in Lakewood are calling the death of a transgender Denver hairstylist “suspicious” after her body was discovered in an alley nearly two months after she was first reported missing.

Lakewood police confirmed on Tuesday that the body found in a Lakewood alley was the missing Denver hairstylist, Jax Gratton.

The decomposing body of a popular Denver hairdresser was discovered Friday in an alley in the city’s Lakewood district. Jax Gratton, a trans woman missing since April, was wearing the same clothes she had on the night she left her apartment when she told her roommate she’d return in a few hours.

Jax Gratton, a 34-year-old hairstylist, was last seen leaving her apartment in Denver on April 15 — over a month later, she still's missing and her mom tells PEOPLE she's "terrified" that something awful has happened.

After nearly two months of searching, the family of missing Denver hairstylist Jax Gratton says her body was recovered by police in Lakewood on Friday night.
