United Parcel Service ( UPS) rallied in early action Tuesday after the delivery company issued a better-than-anticipated earnings report. Revenue was 3.2% lower than a year ago during the quarter at $21.5 billion, and adjusted EPS came in at $2.38 vs. $2.20 consensus.
Ground delivery rates hit a record high in Q4, although carriers are willing to make concessions for more lucrative volume, per the TD Cowen/AFS Freight Index.
The company last January said it would accelerate a plan to slash millions of low-profit deliveries for Amazon, its largest customer and a growing rival.
