Unlike the women's tournament, the US Open men's final is the one many hoped for after No. 1 Novak Djokovic and No. 2 Roger Federer cruised to straight-sets wins in their semifinal matches.

Federer defeated Marin Cilic in straight sets, making him the man with the most singles titles at the tournament, and, at nearly 36, the oldest man to win it in the Open era.

Afterward, Federer sounded almost giddy talking on court. Speaking quickly, he assessed Cilic, his semifinal opponent. "Marin's played some great tennis in New York over the years," Federer said.
