Rite Aid to close additional stores amid bankruptcy filing

A Rite Aid distribution center in Harford County, Maryland, is expected to lay off more than 300 workers and close its doors after the Pennsylvania-based pharmacy filed for bankruptcy for a second time.
After receiving feedback from the Federal Trade Commission that led Rite Aid and Walgreens to believe that they would not be able to obtain the clearance to complete the merger, the two companies terminated the original merger agreement, and simultaneously entered into an asset purchase agreement on June 28, 2017.
All five Rite Aid pharmacies in Vermont are slated to close as the national chain works through bankruptcy. And for some communities, that means their town will no longer have a local pharmacy to fill prescriptions.
Any consumers who experience issues redeeming their Rite Aid points, coupons, unused gift cards, or with returning merchandise to Rite Aid should submit a complaint to the Bureau of Consumer Protection online or contact the Consumer Protection Hotline at 1-800-441-2555.
