NEW YORK (AP) — The Trump administration on Thursday sued New York City over its “sanctuary city” policies, arguing they are obstructing the government from enforcing immigration law and contributed to the recent shooting of an off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer.

The Trump administration has filed a federal lawsuit seeking to end sanctuary city law policies in New York City, arguing that the law violates the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution.

The action comes days after an off-duty Customs and Border Protection officer was shot in the face during an ambush robbery attempt.
