BOTTOM LINE: The Seattle Kraken host the Anaheim Ducks for the season opener. Seattle had a 35-41-6 record overall while going 12-12-2 against opponents from the Pacific Division last season. The Kraken allowed 3.2 goals per game while scoring 3.0 last season.
Berkly Catton, a 2024 first-round NHL Draft pick who starred for Spokane in the WHL, highlights the announced Seattle Kraken opening night roster.
The NHL is sending players to the Winter Olympics for the first time since 2014. Here are the Kraken players who are hoping to represent their countries in Milan.
The Kraken's season opener is scheduled for Thursday night at Climate Pledge Arena against the Anaheim Ducks. Catton is one of four players making their first NHL roster out of camp, along with Cale Fleury, Jani Nyman and Ryan Winterton.
The second line has remained intact throughout most of training camp, headlined by Shane Wright. On his wings will be Jaden Schwartz and Eeli Tolvanen. The fourth line features Tye Kartye, Freddy Gaudreau and Jani Nyman. The Kraken's healthy scratch up front is top prospect Berkly Catton.
The Kraken have already have a significant injury on their blue line, with young defender Ryker Evans out 6-8 weeks.
The good: The offseason addition of forward Mason Marchment, acquired from the Stars for a fourth-round pick, figures to aid an offense that averaged less than three goals per game. Fellow newcomer Frederick Gaudreau, who has tallied double-digit goals in three of the last four seasons, should aid that cause as well.
Lane Lambert, hired in May, becomes the Kraken’s third coach in as many seasons. He replaces Dan Bylsma, who lasted only one year after the team’s disappointing 35-41-6 record in 2024-25, which left Seattle well out of playoff contention.
They have different chances of sticking on the roster, but those who weren't sure things to make the Kraken's opening-night roster, they vow to not take it for granted.
