France will launch a six-year renovation of the Louvre in Paris, enlarging the world's most-visited museum to make room for the huge crowds who now cram inside the palace on the banks of the Seine, President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday.

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that the Mona Lisa will get its own dedicated room as part of a major overhaul to the Louvre in Paris.

A succession of recent storms, including Storm Herminia, have caused severe flooding in western France. Residents have been forced to leave their homes by boat and helicopter. In Rennes, one of the worst affected places, around 400 people were taken to safety. The city's mayor said it was the most severe flooding in more than four decades.
