2 killed in house explosion in western suburbs, with smoke seen for miles and home reduced to rubble
Two people were killed after a house explosion in suburban Oswego Thursday afternoon, the Oswego Fire Protection District confirmed, with the scene drawing a large emergency response into the evening as giant plumes of smoke billowed into the air.
After brief negotiations, the person responsible exited the home without further incident and was taken to a local hospital for medical care.
The NTSB released an initial report on the explosion and fire that destroyed a home near Hayward last month, but is still analyzing the handling of the response to a gas leak before the explosion.
Firefighters responded to a house fire and gas leak in Moxee on Wednesday. The two-story house in the 300 block of East Seattle Avenue was destroyed in the fire, and no one was hurt. An East Valley Fire District post on Facebook described the fire as a compressed natural gas explosion.
