Charles Lee “Sonny” Burton did not pull the trigger that killed Doug Battle in 1991. He didn’t tell anyone to fire the shot, nor was he in the building when it happened, according to Burton’s petition for clemency as the date of his execution nears.

The Level 1 risk area includes all of north Alabama, most of central Alabama (roughly from Auburn and Montgomery to the northwest) and the northwestern part of south Alabama. Coastal areas and southeast Alabama are not included. A Level 1 risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible.
