A day after Zohran Mamdani got a surprisingly warm reception at the White House from President Donald Trump, New Yorkers told CNN they were cautiously optimistic and slightly impressed with the mayor-elect.
On Saturday, Nov. 22, a clip of Trump, 79, went viral on X, as users noticed the president was stepping away from his typical fashion choices. It also sparked comparisons to the style of New York City's mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, who visited Trump at the White House a day prior.
Mamdani, standing next to Trump, who was seated behind the Resolute Desk, said he "appreciated" his time speaking to the President. "It was a productive meeting focused on a place of shared admiration and love of New York City and the need to deliver affordability to New Yorkers," Mamdani said.
"Trump feuding with Marjorie Taylor Greene but being in love with Zohran Mamdani was not on my November 2025 bingo card."
