Students shut out of U.S. universities by President Donald Trump's administration should instead come to the U.K., London Mayor Sadiq Khan told an event on Monday.

In a potential breakthrough, the US and China have established a framework to resolve their long-standing trade disputes following discussions in London. US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced the agreement,

"London is back," the capital's Mayor Sadiq Khan told CNBC on Wednesday, laying out his ambition to attract investors, visitors and students away from the U.S.

The US and China have reached a preliminary trade framework after two days of talks, aiming to implement earlier agreements. Both sides will now seek approval from Presidents Trump and Xi.

Travel ban: Citizens from 12 countries, primarily in Africa and the Middle East, are barred from traveling to the United States under an order announced by President Trump last week that went into effect on Monday.
