The tremor struck just over a mile southwest of Hillsdale, New Jersey, at about 12:11 p.m. ET, according to USGS. Hillsdale is about 20 miles northwest of Manhattan.

Tuesday’s magnitude 2.7 earthquake was recorded just south of Hillsdale, N.J. — about 25 miles northwest of Midtown Manhattan — at 12:11 p.m., officials said. The tremor originated roughly 7 miles beneath the surface.
