The Mississippi State Department of Health confirmed one person has now died from the West Nile virus in 2025.
Since 1999, the West Nile virus has infected 52,944 Americans and is responsible for 2,463 U.S. deaths. As of Sept. 21, 479 cases have been reported and 21 people have died.
