Flight recorders from the passenger jet that crashed in South Korea last month, killing more than 170 people, stopped working minutes before the plane belly-landed and exploded on the runway, investigators said Saturday.

An investigation into a fire that engulfed an Air Busan plane at a South Korean airport this week is being slowed by a large amount of fuel and oxygen still on board, an air crash investigation official told Reuters.

An Airbus plane belonging to South Korean carrier Air Busan caught fire on Tuesday at Gimhae International Airport in the country’s south while preparing for departure to Hong Kong, fire authorities said.

The fire broke out in the back of the cabin, officials said. All 176 people on board, including passengers and crew members, were evacuated, some with minor injuries.

The South Korean Transport Ministry announced on Wednesday that the concrete feature would be removed from Muan International Airport, according to Reuters. Most other international airports simply mount similar arrays on breakaway posts to allow planes to overrun the pavement across flat ground.

Shares of Air Busan dropped on Friday, after a plane belonging to the budget carrier caught fire earlier this week.
