Lamborghini plans to launch its first electric car by 2030. The vehicle will be the most powerful of the brand.

It'll use a shared platform, but still have what VW AG's CEO described as "very specific set-up for Lamborghini."

The first all-electric Lamborghini could make its debut by 2030, and will likely be based on the previously-released Lanzador concept.

However, while the platform may be able to support 2,000 hp, we’d be surprised if Lamborghini’s first EV hits the market with that much power, at least in its standard form, particularly if it takes the shape of a high-riding crossover like the Lanzador.

Blume also said the platform will support power outputs of up to 2,000 hp, likely based on the metric horsepower rating VW Group uses. That would equate to 1,973 hp based on the standard used in the U.S.

Lamborghini's hybrid supercar, the Revuelto, makes 1,001 horsepower. Its next electrified car, and the brand's first fully electric one, could make almost double that number, according to Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume.

A fully electric Lamborghini Urus was expected by the end of this decade, or at least it was in 2023, before demand for EVs weakened and Lamborghini started saying that a fully electric supercar was not close.
