Braden Smith of Purdue is the Associated Press Big Ten player of year, Michigan State’s Tom Izzo is coach of the year and Wisconsin’s John Tonje the newcomer of the year.

Braden Smith brushed preseason player of the year aside in October, saying he wantred the postseason honor. He got it, but not the way he wanted.

The Purdue Boilermakers put together a strong regular season and now will head into the Big Ten tournament as they look to work their way to a higher seed for March Madness. Gone are the days of Zach Edey dominating the post for Purdue. This season, point guard Braden Smith was the main driving force of the team.
